William Martens and Tiereney Souza Win Sport and Recreation Law Association 2024 Graduate Case Study Competition

Pepperdine Caruso Law students Tiereney "Lulu" Souza and William Martens recently won the national championships for the Sport & Recreation Law Association's (SRLA) 2024 Graduate Case Study Competition.  The SRLA Case Study Cup requires graduate, PhD, and law students to advise a university client on legal and liability considerations. The case involved safety risks to athletes who suffer injuries during practice or competition. The students also proposed a specific emergency action plan to create a safe and positive environment for student-athletes, coaches, and athletic trainers to excel in sport, academics, and socially.  

Professor Maureen Weston served as coach to the team and, like the competition judges, was impressed by Souza and Martens's astute presentations and professionalism.
