Wendy McGuire Coats (JD '05) named among Top Women Lawyers by Daily Journal
May 24, 2017 | By Kylie Larkin -- Pepperdine Law alumna Wendy McGuire Coats (JD '05) has been named to the Daily Journal's list of "Top Women Lawyers" in California. Coats is a partner at Fisher Phillips, located in San Francisco.

Fisher Phillips, a national labor and employment law firm representing employers, announces that Partner and Appellate Counsel Wendy McGuire Coats has been named to the Daily Journal's 2017 list of Top Women Lawyers in California. The list recognizes leading female attorneys who possess strong litigation and leadership skills, have been influential in the community and have made an impact on the legal field.
Based in the firm's San Francisco office, Coats leads the firm's California Appellate Practice. She is a certified specialist in Appellate Law by the California Board of Legal Specialization, a distinction held by fewer than 400 California attorneys. Coats represents clients in all aspects of appellate litigation in state and federal appellate courts, and she advises trial counsel in appellate strategy before, during, and after trial.
A member of California Women Lawyers and the ABA Council of Appellate Lawyers, Coats is a regular contributor to the council's publication, Appellate Issues. She is also a moot court coach for Pepperdine University School of Law. Coats was named a "Rising Star" from 2012 to 2015 and a "Super Lawyer" in 2016 by Northern California Super Lawyers.
Coats received her J.D., magna cum laude, from the Pepperdine University School of Law (2005), where she was Editor-in-Chief of the Pepperdine Law Review, and her B.S. Ed., magna cum laude, from the University of Missouri – Columbia (1996). Following law school, Coats served as law clerk to the Honorable Ronald S.W. Lew in the Central District of California.
