Wendy McGuire Coats (JD '05) joins Fisher & Phillips LLP (San Francisco)

March 24, 2016 --  Pepperdine Law alumna Wendy McGuire Coats (JD '05) has joined the San Francisco office of Fisher & Phillips LLP, a national labor and employment law firm that represents employers.  Coats joins as appellate counsel and will serve as practice lead of the firm's recently launched California Appellate Practice Group.

From the Fisher & Phillips press release:

"California businesses continue to face complex labor and employment laws, which are becoming more complicated with class action and arbitration issues being decided by appellate courts. Wendy's experience in this area will be a benefit to the growing San Francisco office and across the state," said Jason Geller, managing partner of Fisher & Phillips' San Francisco office. "In addition, the formation of an appellate practice is a solid complement to the legal services we offer our clients, which will benefit from Wendy's extensive knowledge."

Coats represents clients in all aspects of appellate litigation in state and federal appellate courts. She also advises trial counsel in appellate strategy before, during, and after trial.

A member of the American Bar Association's Council of Appellate Lawyers (CAL) publications committee, Coats regularly contributes to CAL's publication Appellate Issues. She also serves on the Board of Directors of the Contra Costa County Bar Association, the California Women Lawyers' amicus committee, and on the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals Pro Bono Appellate Panel.

Coats was recently named to Super Lawyers – Northern California in Appellate Law, after receiving the Rising Star in Appellate Law – Northern California designation in 2009-2010, 2012-2015. She received her J.D., magna cum laude, from the Pepperdine University School of Law (2005), where she was Editor in Chief of the Pepperdine Law Review, and her B.S Ed., magna cum laude, from the University of Missouri – Columbia (1996).
