Todd Irby (JD '83) appointed Court Commissioner of Placer Superior Court
January 17, 2017 | Pepperdine Law alumnus Todd Irby (JD '83) was recently appointed Court Commissioner for the California Superior Court of Placer County. The court's presiding judge is Pepperdine Law alumnus, Honorable Alan V. Pineschi (JD '77).

The Placer Superior Court is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Todd D. Irby of Sacramento, California as Court Commissioner, effective February 6, 2017. Mr. Irby fills the vacancy created by the recent retirement of Commissioner Trilla Bahrke.
Mr. Irby will be leaving his position as Deputy Secretary/Chief Counsel for the California Department of Veterans Affairs, a position he has held since his appointment by Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. in July of 2012. "Mr. Irby brings a wide range of experience to his service as a judicial officer and we are excited to have him join in the administration of justice in Placer County," said Presiding Judge Alan Pineschi.
Prior to his current role at the California Department of Veteran's Affairs, Mr. Irby served as a Deputy Attorney General in the California Department of Justice. Prior to joining the California Department of Justice, he practiced civil law from 1991 to 2007.
Over his legal career, Mr. Irby has been very active in volunteering and participating in efforts to make improvements to the legal profession for the benefit of the public. For example, he is a member of the Anthony M. Kennedy Inn of Court and has assumed the role of Master. In addition, he has served as Commissioner, Vice Chair, and Chair of the State Bar of California's Commission on Judicial Nominees Evaluation (JNE), as well as both a Chair and member of JNE's Review Committee. He also served as Chair of the State Bar's Ethnic Minority Relations Committee.
Mr. Irby was admitted to the State Bar of California in 1991. He earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Ohio State University and his Juris Doctorate from Pepperdine University School of Law.
