Restoration and Justice Clinic Successfully Argues Petition on Behalf of Client
Pepperdine Caruso Law Restoration and Justice Clinic court-certified law students Emma Joy McArthy (3L), Sophia Kennan (2L), Kirsten Kieu (2L), and Amanda Peterson (2L) appeared at an evidentiary hearing at the Clara Shortridge Foltz Criminal Justice Center on behalf of a human trafficking survivor seeking vacatur relief (expungement plus sealing). Their client had been trafficked for decades resulting in multiple arrests and convictions.
This semester, the team filed a 177-page petition. On April 16, they successfully argued the petition against the Los Angeles District Attorney, and the court vacated 13 convictions and 9 arrests for their client giving her a clean slate and chance to pursue her dreams of becoming a nurse.
