REMAND Makes National Television Broadcast Premiere
October 18, 2017 | By Paul Caron -- Remand: To remain indefinitely and hopelessly in prison while awaiting trial.
I encourage you to check out tonight's national television broadcast premiere of the inspiring and award-winning documentary film REMAND. The BBC and Washington Post both chronicle how Pepperdine Law professor Jim Gash's representation of a wrongly accused Ugandan juvenile prisoner named Henry led to his exoneration and release. Revolution Pictures dramatically captures how this case sparked transformative change in Uganda's entire criminal justice system through the work of Pepperdine's Sudreau Global Justice Program.
Golden Globe winning actress Angela Bassett narrates this 40-minute film that not only captures the breathtaking beauty of East Africa, but also offers the first-ever glimpse inside Uganda's Luzira maximum security prison as American lawyers and law students team with Ugandan lawyers and law students to provide access to justice for prisoners waiting years on remand.
Last month, Pepperdine received the largest endowment in the law school's history from alumnus Laure Sudreau ('97) to further this work on behalf of the poor and vulnerable in the developing world.
REMAND airs tonight as part of series called Link Voices:
