Professor Trey Childress Appointed Adviser to ALI Restatement of the Law Fourth, The Foreign Relations Law of the United States
Professor Donald Earl (Trey) Childress has been appointed as an adviser to the American Law Institute's Restatement of the Law Fourth, The Foreign Relations Law of the United States. The restatement will address selected topics on treaties, jurisdiction, and sovereign immunity. By participating in this project, advisers have the opportunity to influence the development of the law and to work with other eminent lawyers, judges, and academics.
Professor Childress is an elected member of the American Law Institute (ALI). He served for three years as the 28th Counselor on International Law to the Legal Adviser at the United States State Department, which involved advising on the formulation of the government's international arbitration and litigation strategy. During that time, he had the privilege of serving as counsel and presenting argument before the International Court of Justice.
ALI is the leading independent organization in the United States producing work to clarify, modernize, and improve the law. The ALI drafts revises and publishes Restatements of the Law, Model Codes, and Principles of Law that are enormously influential in courts, tribunals, and legislatures, as well as in legal scholarship.
