Beloved Professor Robert F. Cochran, Jr. delivered his final class lecture in Ethical Lawyering following a distinguished career at Pepperdine Caruso Law in which in founded the Herbert and Elinor Nootbaar Institute of Law, Religion, and Ethics, and co-founded the Sudreau Global Justice Institute. In February 2019, Pepperdine Caruso Law hosted a Festschrift on law, religion, and ethics in honor of Professor Cochran. The Pepperdine Law Review published papers from the Festschrift about the remarkable influence of Professor Cochran's scholarship. The individual articles from the issue may be found here.
At the end of his last class, Professor Cochran encouraged his students to always seek the truth, find ways to help others, and see the best in those they represent. Pepperdine Caruso Law deans, faculty, and staff then joined his students via Zoom to celebrate Professor Cochran with a virtual "clap-out," a tradition of applause and congratulations.
Among those paying tribute to Professor Cochran was Senior Research Services Librarian Don Buffaloe, who comments, "Bob Cochran embodies all that is best about the Pepperdine Caruso School of Law. He has contributed outstanding scholarship, and provided leadership in founding and promoting numerous School of Law institutes and symposia. He cares deeply about students and their moral and ethical development. Pepperdine has been blessed by his work here, and he will be missed."
Indeed, we will all miss you, Coach.
