Professor Maureen Weston Presents "Sports Arbitration: Coming to a City Near You!" -- California Lawyers Association

Professor Maureen A. Weston presented "Sports Arbitration: Coming to a City Near You!" at the California Lawyers Association's 2025 California International Arbitration Week. Professor Weston's panel discussed Olympic Games arbitration and athlete representation. As Los Angeles prepares to host the Olympic Games in 2028, the panel addressed the unique role the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) plays in resolving on-site Olympic-related disputes. The panel also discussed CAS operations, the types of issues it adjudicates and the procedures for doing so, and significant disputes arising out the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The panel of experienced arbitrators and counsel included Michael Lenard of the International Court of Arbitration for Sport; Maidie Oliveau of Arent Fox Schiff; Howard Jacobs, athlete advocate; and moderator Robby Mockler of Steptoe LLP. The 2025 California International Arbitration Week took place on March 9-13 in Los Angeles.
