Professor Maureen Weston Appointed to Uniform Law Commission's College Athlete Name, Likeness, and Image Issues Study Committee

Professor Maureen Arellano Weston has been appointed to the Uniform Law Commission's (ULC), College Athlete Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) Issues Study Committee. The ULC Study Committee will convene to address the various introductions or planned introductions of NIL legislation pending currently in twenty-one states, prompted by California's Fair Pay to Play legislation. The legislation, enacted in September of 2019,  gives student athletes a right to earn money from their NIL without affecting the student's scholarship or athletic eligibility in contradiction to existing NCAA amateurism rules. The ULC Committee will consider the impact of the varied state legislation on athletic programs governed by NCAA rules and regulations and study models for state legislation to address potential non-uniformity among the states.
