Judge Ellis served on the “rocket docket” in the Eastern District of Virginia. His chambers lived up to that name during my year with him. Things moved fast. I’m astonished in retrospect at how much high-quality written work product came out of his chambers during that year. It’s not an exaggeration to say that nearly one published opinion was issued per week (plus numerous written orders). And the opinions were “thorough,” as the Judge would insist.
