Petition for Certiorari Co-Authored by Colten Stanberry (JD '19) Granted by Supreme Court in Mahmoud v. Taylor
The United States Supreme Court has granted certiorari in the religious exercise case Mahmoud v. Taylor. The cert petition was co-authored by Pepperdine Caruso Law alumnus Colten Stanberry (JD ‘19). Stanberry serves as counsel at the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty and is part of the legal team representing the petitioners before the Supreme Court. At issue in the case is whether public schools burden parents’ religious exercise when they compel elementary school children to participate in instruction on gender and sexuality against their parents’ religious convictions and without notice or opportunity to opt out.
The Supreme Court will hear the case later this term. This is the second cert petition that Stanberry helped author that was granted this cycle.
