Pepperdine Team Competes in Vis East Competition

Congratulations to Emily Sauer, Tracy Smith and Kevin Reddington who, out of 117 teams from universities around the world, advanced to the Round of 16 at the Vis East competition, which took place on March 11-18 in Hong Kong. Professor Hilary Reed coached the team and they did an amazing job of representing Pepperdine. Emily Sauer received an honorable mention award for excellent oral advocacy (one of only about 30 awarded out of nearly 300 advocates). Rumors at Vis had Pepperdine tagged as the team to watch which resulted in a large crowd gathering to view their final preliminary round against National University of Singapore. Interestingly, Pepperdine beat the overall winners of the Vis East competition, ILS Pune India, just a few days earlier in the Round of 16 at the Kuala Lumpur Pre-Moot and practiced with them before the actual Vis competition.

Straus also wants to thank Luis King (LLM '16) for his leadership role in organizing the Pre-Moot at the Kuala Lumpur Regional Centre for Arbitration in which our Pepperdine team participated this year. Immediately after completing his LLM at Pepperdine, King accepted a position as Case Counsel at the Kuala Lumpur Regional Centre for Arbitration to work on international arbitration.
