Sukhsimranjit Singh joins Straus Institute as Associate Director

January 25, 2016 --  The Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution is pleased to announce that Sukhsimranjit Singh will begin in May as Associate Director of the Straus Institute and Assistant Professor of Law and Practice at Pepperdine University School of Law, where he will serve as director of the LLM program.

Professor Singh is recognized as an expert in cross-cultural dispute resolution and has taught cross-cultural dispute resolution at Pepperdine, University of Southern California, Hamline and Willamette University in the U.S. and at Deusto University in Spain, Institut Catholique De Paris in France, and National Law University in India.  He has served as Associate Director of the Center for Dispute Resolution at Willamette University since 2008 and founding director of the LLM in Dispute Resolution since 2012.

A practicing Sikh, Professor Singh grew up in Punjab, India-a land known for its distinct spiritual and cultural values. Singh has trained lawyers or law students in mediation in seventeen countries and more than thirty U.S. States. Singh graduated from University of Missouri-Columbia with LLM in Dispute Resolution and with full scholarship and served as Legal Editor, Orthopedic Medical Legal Journal. He earned his first law degree, LL.B with honors and a gold medal from National Academy of Legal Studies and Research, Hyderabad, one of India's premier law schools. While earning his law degree, Singh clerked with Chief Justice of India, Justice RC Lahoti. Singh did his post-graduate fellowship in dispute resolution from Hamline University's Dispute Resolution Institute and has successfully mediated hundreds of cross-cultural and commercial cases with clients from United States, India, New Zealand and Canada.

Professor Singh has published in Cardozo, Pepperdine and ABA dispute resolution Journals and at Hamline University Rethinking Negotiation books and volunteered his time to resolve church disputes and local government conflicts in Oregon. In 2014, Singh gave four keynote addresses at International or National Dispute Resolution Conferences and in 2015, he gave a TED Talk on Cross-Cultural Dispute Resolution in Salem, Oregon.

Straus Institute LLM Program

Over the past few years Pepperdine's LLM program has attracted international attention and has grown from a handful of international students to 42 international students from 29 different countries in Fall 2015.  The program is expected continue to grow with the addition of the LLM in International Commercial Arbitration (ICA), LLM in International Commercial Law and Arbitration (ICLA), LLM in International Commercial Law and Dispute Resolution (ICLDR), LLM in U.S. Law and Dispute Resolution and the flagship LLM in Dispute Resolution.
