Pepperdine Law Launches Disaster Relief Clinic
October 19, 2017 | Pepperdine Law has launched a Disaster Relief Clinic to serve people affected by the hurricanes in Texas, Florida, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands as well as the wildfires in California. Professor Sophia Hamilton is leading the immediate responses with student volunteers through the School of Law's pro bono program. Professor Jeff Baker will lead the full Disaster Relief Clinic in January.
Texas RioGrande Legal Aid is the principal partner in Texas, with organizing leadership through the legal clinics at Loyola-New Orleans College of Law. Law students and clinical faculty are representing clients in Texas with appeals to FEMA on housing issues.
The Disaster Relief Clinic is forging partnerships to expand its work in order to provide research assistance to other volunteer attorneys in Florida, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The Clinic is also connecting with legal aid agencies and volunteer lawyers in Northern California to extend assistance to people displaced by recent wildfires.
