Professor Maureen Weston and Jeremy Evans (LLM '18) Represent Pepperdine Law at the Sports Lawyer Association Conference
May 25, 2018 | Professor Maureen Weston and Jeremy Evans, Esq., California Sports Lawyer and 2018 LLM graduate in Entertainment Media & Sports Law at Pepperdine, rocked the Sports Lawyer Association Annual Conference May 16-19. Both Weston and Evans participated in a plenary session panel on ethical and counseling dilemmas faced by corporate counsel in the #MeToo era.
Evans was awarded SLA Outreach Captain of the Year for his extraordinary efforts in organizing local SLA programs throughout the year in Southern California.
Weston, a Board Member and Co-Chair for the SLA Annual Conference, organized and moderated a live mock Sports Doping Arbitration Hearing before arbitrators with the Court of Arbitration for Sport. Weston also introduced sessions for Pro Sports League General Counsels and Player Association Executive Directors for the NBA, NFL, NHL, MLB, and MLS.
The Sports Lawyers Association (SLA) is a non-profit, international, professional organization whose common goal is the understanding, advancement, and ethical practice of sports law. SLA has over 1,000 current members, including practicing lawyers, law educators, law students, and other professionals with an interest in law relating to professional and amateur sports.
The SLA Annual Conference is designed for attorneys, agents and other representatives of professional athletes, professional sports teams and leagues, players associations, stadium and arena authorities, and operators, amateur sports and intercollegiate organizations, students and professors of sports law; educators; and all others generally interested in the field of sports law.
