Pepperdine Caruso Law Welcomes New Waves to California Bar at December 2022 Swearing In Ceremony
On Thursday, December 8, 2022, the bi-annual tradition of the California Bar Swearing In Ceremony was held in person at Pepperdine Caruso School of Law. Caruso Law graduates and their family and friends gathered in Malibu to celebrate the Class of 2022’s bar exam performance.
Alumni director Jessie Fahy (JD ‘11) opened the ceremony with a prayer for the graduates’ future legal careers. Dean Paul Caron then addressed the attendees, commenting, "As a law school, we will not rest until every single one of our graduates passes the bar exam." Dean Caron thanked the academic mastery program team of Ann Camacho, Barrett Schreiner, and Peter Fendel for their tireless efforts to aid the Class of 2022 in taking and passing the California Bar Examination.
Judge Dwayne Moring (‘84, JD ‘91) of the Superior Court of San Diego presided over the ceremony. After administering the oath to the new attorneys Judge Moring remarked, “I am thrilled to see you all become members of the bar. In this room are future law professors, prosecutors, defense attorneys, civil litigators, legal aid attorneys, ambassadors, members of Congress, judges, Supreme Court justices and maybe even a President of this great nation.”
Judge Moring was appointed in 2008 by then Governor Schwarzenegger to a judicial seat on the San Diego County Superior Court where he continues to preside over criminal matters in a general trial department of the South County Courthouse. Judge Moring has been an active member of the Caruso Law Board of Advisors, a frequent moot court judge, and helped launch the For People of Color Conference.
