This month, a team of students from the Pepperdine Caruso Law International Arbitration Society competed in the Hong Kong Pre-Moot for the Frankfurt Investment Arbitration Moot Court (FIAMC). The team was comprised of team coach Arturs Kazaks, team captain Wooseok “Paul” Shin, and team members Paul Hettegger, Aikaterini Karamousalidou, and Sarina Marlin. Professor Jack J. Coe serves as the group’s faculty advisor.
Ten teams were selected to participate in the pre-moot for the FIAMC. The Pepperdine Caruso Law team will participate in the 14th annual FIAMC at the end of this month. In this pre-moot, Pepperdine Caruso Law’s team competed against teams from the National University of Singapore and Peking University in China.
The FIAMC is among the oldest and most prestigious student competitions in the area of investment protection law. Its focus is on the oral presentation of legal arguments before an arbitral tribunal composed of specialists in the field during a one-week final event that takes place in early or mid-March of every year.
The FIAMC is unique in that it combines the law of investment protection, one of the most modern and fastest developing areas of international law, with the history of international law and of international trade.
