Pepperdine Caruso Law Entertainment, Media, and Sports Law Team Competes in International Sports Law Arbitration Moot
Pepperdine Caruso Law students and Entertainment, Media, and Sports Law competition team members, Kyle Finkel, Ari Steinberg, Tatiana Valente, and Charlotte Henderson competed as two teams in the prestigious International Sports Law Arbitration Moot (SLAM 6th Edition), organized by London-based LawInSport, in partnership with Kellerhals Carrard.
As part of the competition, the teams showcased their legal analysis and advocacy skills in addressing this year’s moot problem—a complex employment contract dispute between a FIFA Premier League football coach, a club, and a governing body, based on a real-world scenario. Participants submitted written briefs and later defended their positions in oral arguments, advocating for both the claimant and respondent before actual Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) arbitrators and sports law professionals.
A special congratulations to teammates Valente and Henderson for advancing to final rounds, the Round of 16, out of 45 teams from around the world. During the Round of 16, the Caruso Law team argued before panels of three Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) arbitrators.
This achievement highlights SLAM's commitment to providing participants with practical, real-world sports law experience. Professor Maureen Weston served as coach and advisor to the student and Entertainment, Media, and Sports Law Competition Advocacy teams.
