Pepperdine Caruso Law Celebrates Diversity Week 2024
From the Pepperdine Caruso Law Office of Diversity and Belonging:
Diversity Week 2024, hosted by the Office of Diversity and Belonging on October 14–17, celebrated the rich diversity of the law school through cultural celebrations, expert speakers, panel discussions, and open forums. Reflecting on the significance of the week, assistant director of Diversity and Belonging Ateshia Naccari shared, "Diversity Week reminds us of the beauty and strength found in the unique backgrounds, cultures, and experiences that make up our community. It’s a time to not only celebrate our differences but to recognize the unity and respect we foster in coming together. I’m continually inspired by how these moments of connection deepen our understanding of each other and strengthen our shared commitment to the pursuit of truth and excellence."
The week began with Global Village Day, celebrating ethnic, geographical, and national diversity through cuisine, art, and cultural displays. The atrium buzzed with excitement as students enjoyed dishes from the Deep South, Jamaica, Italy, and more—symbolizing unity, respect, and curiosity.
On Tuesday, Seaver College and Caruso Law alumna and award-winning disability rights advocate Elizabeth Eubanks ('05, JD '08) offered critical insights on disability rights, relevant to community members and future attorneys.
Wednesday featured an Open Conversation led by professor Jeff Baker, where students, staff, and faculty discussed the challenges of navigating the upcoming 2024 presidential election. Participants exchanged thoughtful perspectives on fostering dialogue amid diverse ideologies.
The week concluded with an interfaith panel moderated by associate director of Spiritual Life, Seth Bamburg. Students from various faith backgrounds shared how their beliefs guide them through law school and life decisions.
The enthusiasm and participation during Diversity Week reflect the strength of our community, united by a shared commitment to learning, respect, and the pursuit of truth and excellence.
