Pepperdine Caruso Law 51st Annual Vincent S. Dalsimer Moot Court Competition

On Friday, January 31, 2025, Pepperdine Caruso School of Law held the final round of the 51st annual Vincent S. Dalsimer Moot Court Competition.  After heated competition in preliminary rounds on January 25 and a semifinal round on January 30, the final round arguments were presented by Brooke Newman and Megan Hoefs, for Petitioner, and Sarah Martin and David Ter-Petrosyan, for Respondent.

Pepperdine was honored to welcome three sitting federal judges to the final round bench.  The Honorable Justin R. Walker of the United States Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit presided as chief justice, serving alongside the Honorable Lawrence VanDyke of the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and the Honorable Gregory F. Van Tatenhove of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Kentucky.

In a close decision, the final round judges named Sarah Martin and David Ter-Petrosyan as the victors.  Each will receive $1,000 in prize money as the winning team. Runners-up Brooke Newman and Megan Hoefs each received awards of $250.

The Moot Court Board also awarded prizes for excellence in the preliminary rounds.  Sarah Martin was named Best Oral Advocate in the preliminary rounds and was awarded a $2,500 prize.  Shaelyn Carrol was named Second-Best Oral Advocate and was awarded $750.  Micah Rabin was named Third-Best Oral Advocate and was awarded $250.  In addition, $1,000 was awarded to the team honored with the Best Brief of the competition, written by competition winners Sarah Martin and David Ter-Petrosyan.

Congratulations to all of the advocates who showcased their excellent written and oral advocacy skills throughout the competition!
