Palmer Center Hosts Securities and Exchange Commission Director James Moloney (JD '94)

The Geoffrey H. Palmer Center for Entrepreneurship and the Law was honored to host alumnus James Moloney (JD '94), director of the Division of Corporation Finance at the Securities and Exchange Commission, for a reception and fireside chat in Malibu on September 23.  During the event, Director Moloney shared his career path from being a law student at Pepperdine Caruso Law to his current role at the SEC with students and alumni. His remarks were informative, encouraging, and entertaining. 

“We were delighted to welcome Director Moloney back to Malibu and our students were incredibly grateful to learn from him, given his distinguished legal career and resilience in the face of adversity,” the Palmer Center’s academic director Mark Kubisch said.  “I also would like to thank John Servidio, a distinguished alumni and partner in Goodwin’s Capital Markets practice, for helping to make this event possible through his generous support of the Palmer Center Excellence Fund as the event provided a special opportunity to introduce law students to capital markets.”  Professor Emeritus of Law Janet Kerr, the founder of the Palmer Center and Director Moloney’s former professor, was also in attendance.

Over seventy-five law students attended the event, where they met with Director Moloney as well as leading practitioners in the capital markets space, including lawyers from Goodwin Proctor, Glaser Weil, Skadden Arps, and Chevron.  As a current student observed, “I was nervous about speaking with such accomplished people, but everyone was approachable, kind, and thrilled to talk about their careers and journeys.  I am looking forward to attending future events.”
