DeMaurice Smith, National Football League Player Association Executive Director, Visits Pepperdine Law

April 10, 2019 | DeMaurice Smith, the Executive Director of the National Football League Player Association, spoke with Professor Maureen Weston's Sports Law class and met with Pepperdine Law BALSA students.  Pepperdine Law also hosted Mr. Smith in a public event sponsored by Seaver College, where Mr. Smith engaged in a conversation with NFL Media sports writer Jim Trotter about the Ethics of Zealous Advocacy and issues concerning NFL players in the upcoming NFL 2020 collective bargaining negotiations.  Smith is in his fourth term leading the NFLPA and is noted for negotiating a landmark 10-year collective bargaining agreement for league players, including new health and safety protocols and the highest share of TV contract revenues in history. Smith is named among 2018's Top 50 Most Influential People in Sports Business by SportsBusiness Journal.  The event was organized by Professor  Alica Jessop, Seaver Sports Management, Professor Weston, and Seaver alumna Courtney Lang.
