MacKenzie Savage (JD '23) Receives Contra Costa County Outstanding Prosecutor of the Year Award
Pepperdine Caruso Law alumna MacKenzie Savage (JD '23) has received the Outstanding Prosecutor of the Year Award for Contra Costa County, California. Savage serves as a Contra Costa County deputy district attorney. She was honored at the MADD Bay Area’s 2026 Law Enforcement and Prosecutor Recognition Awards held at the Blackhawk Museum in Danville, California, on July 9. Savage was recognized at the award ceremony for her relentless pursuit of justice in DUI fatality cases, her unyielding support for victims, and her leadership in advocating for stronger DUI laws. Her proactive community outreach to prevent future tragedies reflects her unwavering commitment to saving lives and holding offenders accountable. At the event, Savage delivered a speech highlighting how strong community partnerships are essential to effectively prosecute DUI offenders and secure justice for victims.
Savage is the IMPACT (impaired motorist prosecution and crimes team) prosecutor within the Contra Costa District Attorney’s Office. As the IMPACT prosecutor, she handles all felony DUI fatality cases in the county. From the moment a DUI fatality occurs, Savage assists law enforcement with the investigation, ensuring critical evidence is identified, preserved, and evaluated properly. By managing these cases from the initial call through final resolution, the unit provides the level of expertise, focus, and consistency these complex and sensitive cases demand. In her role, Savage has strengthened the office’s effectiveness in prosecution and has helped deliver clearer communication, stronger support, and greater justice for victims and their families.
