Joshua Upham Recognized as Second Place Outstanding Oralist at California Regional for the New York City Bar National Moot Court Competition

Pepperdine Caruso Law third-year student Joshua Upham was recognized as the second-place outstanding oralist at the California Regional for the New York City Bar National Moot Court Competition, which took place on November 6-7, 2020.

Coached by Pepperdine Caruso Law alumna Tori Votino (JD '20), Josh competed with Pepperdine Caruso Law teammate Zachary Carstens against twelve other teams in the competition.

The competition problem concerned a Supreme Court appeal of two issues: (1) Petitioner's standing to bring an action under the RICO statute, and (2) whether the Petitioner's Fourth Amendment claim can survive the qualified immunity defense.

Josh's performance continues Pepperdine Caruso School of Law's tradition of excelling at interschool moot court competitions.
