James Azadian (JD '01) Quoted in Daily Journal Article
October 3, 2018 | Pepperdine Law alumnus James S. Azadian (JD '01) was quoted in the front-page Daily
Journal article, "State law to protect unions may face tough legal tests." The article
considers the effect of a California law that absolves unions of liability for fees
charged to non-members prior to the U.S. Supreme Court decision in Janus v. AFSCME
Council 31 that the fees are unconstitutional.
Excerpt via the Daily Journal:
"Let's just assume this law is perfect, and it's not going to be challenged, and it passes muster. You still have the federal claims, and it can't do anything about that," said James S. Azadian of Dykema Gossett PLLC. "What the government and the Legislature is saying here is that any state claim is dead in the water."
