In Memoriam: Robert K. Wrede (LLM '06)
Pepperdine Caruso Law Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution alumnus and former adjunct professor Robert K. Wrede (LLM '06) passed away on June 24 in Santa Monica. For over three decades Wrede specialized in the mediation, arbitration and litigation of domestic and international commercial disputes involving complex technical and economic issues. He was one of the Straus Institute's early LLM graduates.
Professor Peter Robinson pays tribute to Wrede, saying, "Bob Wrede was a tremendous friend to the Straus Institute community. He was thoughtful in his encouragement to professors and staff about how Straus could advance mediation and arbitration. He was generous when teaching other mid-career professionals. He was patient yet convincing when teaching JD students. The Straus events he hosted at the Jonathan Club were sophisticated and classy. His reputation as a no-nonsense trial lawyer for big cases made his endorsement of mediation a big deal. The Straus family and ADR field lost a great friend with Bob’s passing."
From Robert K. Wrede's obituary:
A respected and dynamic trial attorney – “straight out of central casting,” as one district court judge put it – Rob thrived on the complexities of law and built a diverse and challenging commercial practice that took him around the globe, with clients ranging from the Fortune 500 to Hollywood legends. Later in his career, he was a leader in alternative dispute resolution as a mediator, an adjunct professor at Pepperdine’s Straus Institute, and a member of the Los Angeles County Superior Court’s pilot program for neutral evaluation.
