December 2018 Swearing In Ceremony Welcomes New Attorneys to the Bar

December 12, 2018 | On December 5, more than three hundred guests filled the newly remodeled Caruso Auditorium to celebrate Pepperdine Law alumni who passed the July California Bar exam. For each alumnus sworn in, this was a huge accomplished as the California Bar exam had the the lowest pass rate for a bar exam of the last 67 years.

Alumni Director Jessie Fahy opened the evening by introducing Dean Paul Caron, Judge Andre Birotte, Jr. (JD '91), Judge Dwayne Moring (JD '91), and Dean Emeritus Ronald Phillips. Dean Caron's gave a presentation which included clips and music from his favorite musical, "Hamilton," and a special moment to honor Dean Selina Brandt for her extraordinary efforts in preparing our students and alumni pass the Bar examination.

Judge Dwayne Moring of the San Diego Superior Court opened his remarks with a memorable lawyer joke before he administered the state oath. Judge Andre Birotte, Jr. of the Central District of California reflected on the day he received his own Bar results (in the mail), and he then administered the federal oath. Both judges were classmates in law school and shared the importance of making lasting relationships as well as practicing law with integrity and excellence.
