Brittany Stringfellow Otey to be Honored at Union Rescue Mission "Dare to Dream" Gala

October 25, 2017 | By Kylie Larkin -- Professor Brittany Stringfellow Otey will be honored at the 2017 Union Rescue Mission "Dare to Dream" Gala, which will take place on October 28 at the InterContinental Hotel in Downtown Los Angeles. Professor Stringfellow Otey will be presented with the Lyman Stewart Founders Award.

Tribute from the Union Rescue Mission:

Brittney has led the cause of justice for many years at Union Rescue Mission by lifting the weight of legal woes off the shoulders of Union Rescue Mission guests.

About the Union Rescue Mission:

One hundred twenty six years ago Lyman Stewart, president of Union Oil Company, founded Union Rescue Mission and sent gospel wagons to offer food, clothing, and salvation to lost souls. It was a singular vision to love and welcome struggling people on the streets, and to never give up on anyone until they get back on their feet. That vision has not changed.

Today at least 47,000 people in Los Angeles have no place to call home every night. Half of them are women and children. They are in dire need of mental health care to recover from past abuse and crippling trauma; medical and dental treatment; education and help finding jobs. They need time and help to find affordable housing and to know they are loved and that they still matter. Union Rescue Mission provides all of these services under one roof.

Some of our recent milestones include:
• Expanded our cold and wet weather shelter into Year Round Emergency Shelter giving over 200 men and women shelter per night on temporary cots
• Became the only emergency shelter that accepts single women and families with children
