Alexandra Hoffman Wins International Institute for Conflict Prevention and Resolution Original Student Paper Award

Pepperdine Caruso Law third-year student Alexandra Hoffman has won the International Institute for Conflict Prevention and Resolution (CPR Institute) Joseph T. McLaughlin Original Student Paper Award. Hoffman's paper, titled “Bargaining for Equity: The WNBA’s CBA and the Future of Gender in Sports Negotiation,” was initially written for professor Maureen Weston's Negotiation Theory and Practice class.  The paper examines how mediation can help resolve conflicts in professional sports and how gender dynamics influence those disputes.

Hoffman received her award and was recognized at the CPR Institute 's 2026 Annual Meeting held in San Diego on February 11-13. The conference, titled "Navigating Changing Currents: Business ADR in a Global Economy,"  focused on emerging trends in mediation, arbitration, and dispute resolution, with keynote addresses from industry leaders.

Hoffman met with outstanding scholars and leaders in alternative dispute resolution at the conference, including the Honorable Daniel Weinstein. Hoffman is deeply grateful for the opportunity to learn from such incredible leaders in dispute resolution and is thankful to Professor Weston for nominating her for the award.
