2L Marcela Mercado Gonzalez honored as District Attorney Volunteer Law Clerk of the Year

April 17, 2016 -- Second-year Pepperdine Law student Marcela Mercado Gonzalez was honored at Los Angeles County's 34rd Annual Volunteer of the Year Luncheon on April 4. Mercado Gonzalez assists attorneys in downtown Los Angeles at the Clara Shortridge Foltz Criminal Justice Center.

Each year, county officials pay tribute to the thousands of volunteers who donate their time, energy and skills to help improve county services. These contributions save taxpayers tens of millions of dollars a year.

Mercado Gonzalez has been a volunteer law clerk at the Clara Shortridge Foltz Criminal Justice Center since May 2015. She was nominated by Deputy District Attorney Michael Duarte of Central Trials-15.

She is a certified law clerk in her second year of law school. Mercado Gonzalez also is obtaining a master's degree in dispute resolution from the Straus Institute at Pepperdine University.
