ADR at the Roots: Exploring Diversity and Equity in the Field

This Friday, April 23, the Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution will host ADR at the Roots: Exploring Diversity and Equity in the Field, a virtual event that will bring together leading scholars to consider the role of dispute resolution in advancing fairness and justice within the legal system and for society at-large. “The roots of mediation in the United States can be traced to the civil rights movement, when communities sought an effective model to resolve conflict without violence. Our upcoming symposium aims to unearth this history and illuminate how ADR programs and practitioners can address bias and advance equity,” states Aparna Gupta, associate director of the Straus Institute.

The interdisciplinary event features a diverse and distinguished panel of speakers from across the country, including faculty in law, public policy, and global perspectives. Professors Sukhsimranjit Singh and Stephanie Blondell, as well as Judge Daniel Weinstein, who serves as the Institute’s Distinguished Mediator-in-Residence, will speak at the symposium.
