The Nootbaar Institute for Law, Religion and Ethics, and Caruso Law Office of Diversity and Belonging are honored to host Pepperdine Caruso Law’s annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day Dean Speaker Series. Focused on the intersection of faith and justice that typified the life of Dr. King, the speaker series will feature Timothy Welbeck, a civil rights attorney and director of Temple University’s Center for Anti-Racism. As a graduate of Morehouse College and a man of deep Christian faith, Welbeck will speak on the legacy of Dr. King and the ways in which his faith drives his commitment to peace and justice.

Welbeck has devoted his legal practice to protecting the rights of vulnerable individuals, and securing the the legal interests of small businesses and nonprofits. Consequently, he presently serves as the Civil Rights Attorney for the Philadelphia Chapter of Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), where he defends the constitutionally protected civil rights and liberties of those who experience discrimination and harassment based on their faith, race, ethnicity, and/or national origin.

In honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Welbeck exemplifies the true tenets of servant leadership. He graduated cum laude from Morehouse College, where he was awarded the Corella and Bertrand Bonner Scholarship, the HOPE Scholarship, and the Oprah Winfrey Scholarship. He received his JD from Villanova University Charles Widger School of Law.

Caruso Law's Martin Luther King Jr. Day Dean’s Speaker Series event will be held on January 18th at 12:40pm in Classroom D.
