Deanna S. Newton
Biography
Professor Deanna Newton completed her B.A. in political science from Loyola Marymount University in 2013, her J.D. from Pepperdine Caruso Law School in 2017, and her LL.M. in taxation from Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law in 2018. After her education, she joined KPMG's International Tax Group in Los Angeles, where she provided tax planning advice to multinational enterprises as an Associate and later as a Senior Associate from 2018 to 2022. In addition to her professional work, she also served as an adjunct professor at Pepperdine Caruso Law, teaching Federal Income Tax in Fall 2021 and Spring 2022. In Fall 2022, Professor Newton was appointed as the first Caruso Family Faculty Fellow, a program that supports attorneys in transitioning from practice to tenure-track faculty roles. She continued teaching Federal Income Tax in the 2022-2023 academic year and took on teaching Federal Income Tax and Tax Policy in the 2023-2024 academic year. Her dedication to teaching was recognized with the Waves of Excellence Teaching Award, Waves of Excellence Service Award, and the Faculty Award at the Belonging Awards in 2023. Professor Newton’s primary research interests focus on tax and tax policy. In addition, she has authored two tax articles that have been accepted for publication in leading law reviews.
