Biography

Professor Covarrubias received her B.A., cum laude, from UCLA and her J.D. from the USC Gould School of Law. While in law school, Professor Covarrubias served as senior copy editor for the Southern California Law Review and as a teaching fellow for the USC Legal Writing and Advocacy Program. She also mediated cases for the Los Angeles County Superior Court as a member of the USC Mediation Clinic.

After law school, Professor Covarrubias served as a judicial clerk to the Honorable Ruggero J. Aldisert at the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. Prior to that, she also completed externships for the Honorable Stephen R. Reinhardt at the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and the Honorable Orville A. Armstrong at the California Court of Appeal for the Second District.

After clerking, Professor Covarrubias joined the Los Angeles office of the international law firm Jenner & Block, LLP. As a member of the firm's complex commercial litigation practice, Professor Covarrubias worked on high-profile trade secret matters, internal investigations, and appellate matters. She also provided over 250 hours of pro-bono counsel per year to victims of human trafficking, refugees seeking asylum in the United States, and families finalizing adoptions from Los Angeles County's foster care system.
