Alana Cohen Knaster

Biography

Alana Knaster is a professional planner with extensive experience leading and implementing innovative organizational and community change initiatives. As a mediator specializing in public policy conflict resolution, her cases ranged from solving local zoning issues to drafting policies and regulations on oil refining and ecosystem protection.

Ms. Knaster served as mayor of the City of Hidden Hills, CA. from 1983-87 and was involved in local and regional environmental and transportation planning initiatives.

After leaving her full time mediation practice, Alana was chief assistant director of the Monterey County Resource Management Agency, deputy director of the Puget Sound Partnership ( WA. State) and most recently a project manager at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

Alana has been on the faculty of Straus Institute Dispute Resolution Center since 1989. She currently resides in Seattle.
