The Pepperdine University School of Law hosted an unveiling ceremony on May 9, officially introducing the Pepperdine community to a portrait featuring Herbert and Elinor Nootbaar.
Benefactors of the Herbert and Elinor Nootbaar Institute on Law, Religion, and Ethics, the couple has played a key role in School of Law community.
"Herb and Elinor Nootbaar's generosity and inspired philanthropy have solidified Pepperdine Law School's position as a leader in scholarship in law, religion, and ethics, and in providing practical legal experience as students and faculty serve the neediest of the world community through our Global Justice programs," said Dean Deanell Reece Tacha. "We are deeply grateful for and humbled by the profound effect that the Nootbaars have had on this law school."
Herb, now 104, paid tribute to his wife in an address to those in attendance.
"Upon this respected wall, my image joins the lovely image of Martha Elinor Nootbaar, brilliant caring business partner and my faithful angelic wife of 27 later years, until her passing in the spring of 2011," he said. "Elinor and I took precious comfort by the simple treasured presence of each other. With grace and good doing, we wish again to be as one."
The ceremony was followed by a lunch hosted by the School of Law.
