David M. Axelrad (Appellant)
DAVID AXELRAD joined Horvitz & Levy in 1982 and became a partner in 1986. He is a California State Bar Certified Appellate Specialist, and is admitted to practice before California state courts, the United States Supreme Court, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth and Tenth Circuits. He has handled hundreds of civil appeals in state and federal courts, including cases in the California Supreme Court.
Mr. Axelrad has authored articles for legal publications, co-authored appellate practice guides for Matthew Bender and the California Continuing Education of the Bar, and is the editor of a new treatise on the appellate process, Appellate Practice in Federal and State Courts (Law Journal Press 2011). Mr. Axelrad received top rankings from Chambers & Partners USA both in California and nationally. Additionally, he has been named a "Best Lawyer" by The Best Lawyers in America each year since 2006, and has been listed as a Southern California Super Lawyer by Super Lawyers Magazine each year since 2004. In 2010, 2011 and 2012, Mr. Axelrad was named one of the Top 100 Southern California attorneys by Super Lawyers. In 2011, Mr. Axelrad, together with his partner Lisa Perrochet, was awarded a California Lawyer Attorney of the Year (CLAY) Award for his work in the field of Legal Ethics. He is "AV Preeminent" rated by Martindale Hubbell and has been recognized as one of the 3000 leading lawyers in America by Lawdragon, Inc.
Mr. Axelrad is a member of the California Academy of Appellate Lawyers and the American Academy of Appellate Lawyers.
Prior to joining Horvitz & Levy, Mr. Axelrad was an appellate litigation associate with McKenna, Connor & Cuneo, an Assistant to the Director of the Bureau of Consumer Protection, Federal Trade Commission and a Staff Attorney for the Federal Trade Commission. Mr. Axelrad also served as a Staff Attorney for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and a Member of the Santa Clara County Advisory Commission on Consumer Affairs. Mr. Axelrad has been an Adjunct Professor of Law at the University of La Verne College of Law and Loyola Law School in Los Angeles.
