Required Courses

The following courses must be completed by each candidate for a Certificate in Criminal Legal Practice:

  • Criminal Law (3 units)
  • Criminal Procedure (2 units)
  • Evidence (3 or 4 units)
  • Ethical Criminal Procedure (2 units)
  • Trial Practice (3 units)
  • Criminal Pretrial Preparation and Settlement (2 units)
  • Internship with a Government Agency within the Criminal Justice Field (2 or 3 units)

Elective Courses

In addition, each candidate for a Certificate in Criminal Legal Practice must complete a minimum of eight units from the following courses:

  • Advanced Trial Practice (2 units)
  • Advanced Criminal Procedure (2 units)
  • Juvenile Law (2 units)
  • Sentencing and Corrections (2 units)
  • White Collar Crime (2 units)
  • Domestic Violence (2 units)
  • Police Practices (2 units)
  • Interschool Trial Competition (2 units; no more than 2 units of trial competition can count toward the certificate)
  • Interschool Appellate Competition (2 units; no more than 2 units of appellate competition can count toward the certificate)
  • International Criminal Procedure (2 units)
  • Second Internship with a Government Agency within the Criminal Justice Field (maximum of 3 units can count toward the certificate)
  • Any Other Course Jointly Approved by the Director and the Associate Dean for Academics
