The Mentoring Program

This program is designed as a system of support and guidance in which Pepperdine School of Law Alumni can share their experience and insight with current law students.

Many law students are faced with the challenges of making major decisions early in their legal education when they know little about the legal profession. Mentors can provide the benefit of their knowledge and experience to help students achieve their educational and professional goals. Alumni mentors gain a sense of accomplishment and pride from having helped a future colleague and member of the Pepperdine family. Students gain a valuable source of advice and guidance while navigating the rigors of law school.

Opportunities to Connect Include:

ONE-ON-ONE MENTORING. The traditional mentoring arrangement pairs a single alumnus/alumna with one or two students for individual mentoring. As a mentor you have the opportunity to help someone develop academically and professionally. Even if you don't think you have a lot of experience, you do have a lot to offer because you have "been there - done that." You don't have to be a teacher, or a parent, just a good listener and a friend.

DINE & DASH. This is a program that connects students with alumni with the intention of creating a "business-like" meeting over a meal to discuss the student's career of interest. Alumni agree to be contacted by a designated number of students during the academic year, which is determined when registering in the Program.

DINNER GUEST SPEAKER SERIES. This is an event at which one or two keynote speakers are invited to campus to provide general career advice/motivation at a private dinner attended by 10-15 students with a variety of majors and career goals.

CAREER ROUNDTABLES & PANELS. Alumni can sit on a panel of their peers and speak in forum on their career path and share personal insight about their profession, followed by a Q&A session with the student audience.

MOCK INTERVIEWS. Offer your services to the Career Development Office and help prepare students for the real thing. These can be arranged on-campus or at your office.

CAREER ADVISEMENT. Offer your services to students who may call or email in preparation for a scheduled job interview. Provide advice on what to say and what not to say. Clarify aspects of the field and offer resume review.
