The Richard Linn American Inn of Court proudly presents a new scholarship for students. The Mark T. Banner Scholarship has been created in the name of the late Mark T. Banner, a former Linn Inn founder and Master, a leader in the field of patent law in his own right, and the son of Donald W. Banner. This new scholarship is a part of the Linn Inn’s commitment to fostering the development of intellectual property lawyers with commitment to ethics, professionalism and civility. The Patti Paniccia Law Scholarship financially assists students who have dependent children. Applicants must be in good academic standing and responsible for 50% or more of the active parenting of a dependent child. A personal interview with the donor or a donor-appointed committee is required for this scholarship and the interview will take place in January. As a memorial to the late Presiding Justice Hollis G. Best, his friends have established a scholarship to encourage and support outstanding academic achievement and commitment to service by law students. The Best Scholarship is an annual award presented this year in the amount of $1,000, during the Spring 2014 semester. More than one scholarship may be awarded. Each candidate must be a law student who has successfully completed at least one year of law school. Strong preference will be given to current residents of Fresno, Kern, Kings, Madera, Mariposa, Merced, Stanislaus, Tulare or Tuolumne Counties. Primary considerations are academic achievement, extracurricular and community activities; financial need and demonstrated leadership capabilities are also taken into consideration. Constangy, Brooks & Smith will grant a Diversity Scholars Award to a deserving second-year law student. The Firm initiated this program in 2005 in order to recognize the achievements of law students who have demonstrated their interest in diversity. Constangy, Brooks & Smith is a premier labor and employment law firm, representing management for companies nationwide since 1946. Selection criteria is based on academic achievement; commitment to diversity in the student’s community; school or work environment; and personal achievement in overcoming challenges to reach his or her goals. This scholarship was established by the Ellis family to be given to first-year Jewish law students who are in good academic standing, involved with the community, and demonstrate financial need. Eligible students are requested to submit a letter detailing their academic achievements, Jewish community involvement, volunteer work, career goals, and financial need.
