This video segment is intended to prepare viewers, especially those who are unfamiliar with mediation, for the video conference by providing a short description, history, and comparative analysis of mediation. In the video, Thomas Stipanowich meets with Asian Study Group students and delivers a short presentation on the goals and purposes of mediation, comparing U.S. mediation styles with those found in China. The recent development of mediation in the U.S. is compared with the venerable Chinese tradition that has survived for thousands of years. For those new to alternative dispute resolution, this section will prove particularly helpful.
