Straus Managing Director Peter Robinson addresses mediator selection, noting mediators typically come from two primary backgrounds. Senior professionals in an industry are often selected on the basis of their extensive life experience and subject matter expertise. These professionals, Peter explains, tend to train for mediation in a continuing education setting. The other primary mediator background is academic; mediators often complete degrees, such as the LL.M. or the MDR, at institutions like Straus. Nina Meierding and Linda Meyers continue the discussion, further explaining training models found in the U.S.
