IV. OLD BUSINESS

A. Motions on any student proposals:

1. BLSA PROPOSAL

a. Bar Panel Graduation Dinner Intro

5 alums in attendance networking and opp for 3rd years to know what to expect on the bar. Dinner to be held here in Malibu asking for $400 Restaurant possibilities: Guidos. Theme is casual, laid-back, panel speaks about what to do/not to do for bar & alums will bring helpful>

Only 3rd years are allowed b/c more helpful>

b. Question & Answer Session

Hernandez: Who will be invited?

Answer: Just BLSA members. Alum has said will donate money. Dean suite wants a certain alum to attend due to their contribution to the law school.

Example invites include: San Bernardinos DA office, Solo Practitioners, etc.

Ashington-Pickett: Where will money go towards?

Answer: Pay for everything for everyone. If its not enough, then just the 3rd year students will be paid for. Two alums were on the minority panel and others on moot court. Keep doors of communication open.

Ahamed: How many people?

Answer: 15 10 3rd year students (9 have rsvp) and 5 alums.

Beecher: Have you thought about charging members a nominal fee ($10-15)?

Answer: Not thinking about charging. They wont show if they have to pay b/c money is extremely tight. They pay dues to the club. Meetings are once a month. Dues money is gone. BLSA is a very active club. $150 isnt even covering two of the meetings.

c. Discussion

Good cause to give money. Necessary to set precedent. Shouldnt give $400 to every student org that wants to go to dinner. However, since BLSA does so much here, they should be entitled to the extra funds. Concern about the fact that students would not go if they had to pay a fee.

d. Vote on Proposal

i. Rogers motion to give BLSA $400 for their dinner

ii. Brown seconds motion

2. APALSA proposal

a. Discussion

Review of last weeks proposal concerns and proposal.

Concern still is that proposal is in SF and they havent tried to mitigate the amount. Believe that they drive or stay with people to lower costs.

If pay for Registration, Transportation and partial room (1/4 of price) = $700

$218/night (for two rooms). 2 nights is $436 (1/2 of price).

B. Evaluate Events from Last Week

1. How to Pass Bar Exam Panel April 3rd

2. Newly Admitted Students Open House

3. New Dean Panel opening to potential candidates up until December. Once they have narrowed to 3-5, interest in wanting them to meet students before the final decision.

Note: What will help our reputation? Name recognition in the academic legal world.

Some wanting someone from academia, others wanting someone famous. If everyone knows his name, this helps the reputation.

4. In-N-Out Day success. Consider next year into making it a Staff Appreciation Day.

Note: In future, ask faculty/staff to get in line after students
