CLS Teams with Salvation Army for Annual Angel Tree Project

Members of the Pepperdine School of Law's Christian Legal Society have teamed with the Salvation Army, Santa Monica for the organization's annual Angel Tree children's gift program.

Jeff Carpenter Elected District Attorney for Herkimer County, NY

Jeff Carpenter (JD '92) was elected District Attorney for Herkimer County, NY, on Nov. 6. His four-year term will begin on January 1st.

Jeffrey Boyd Appointed to Texas Supreme Court

Jeffrey Boyd was appointed to the Texas Supreme Court in November. An announcement from Gov. Rick Perry's office stated that Boyd's new role will begin Dec. 3, 2012, and will expire at the next general election.

O'Connell, Dorsey Nominated to U.S. District Court

President Barack Obama nominated Judge Beverly Reid O'Connell (JD '90) and Jennifer Popick Dorsey (JD '97) to the United States District Court. Judge O'Connell's nomination is for the Central District of California, while Dorsey was nominated for the District of Nevada.

Waves of Service Honors Video Featuring Pepperdine Law

A video featuring students and alumni of the School of Law took home the award for best overall video during the annual Waves Weekend in October.

Straus Institute Launches Entertainment, Media, and Sports Project

Straus Institute has launched an innovative new Dispute Resolution Project relating to the Entertainment, Media and Sports Industries to coincide with the July 2nd-14th, 2012 Olympic & International Sports Law: Dispute Resolution and Management course in London, taught by Professors Maureen Weston, Jeffrey G. Bentz and Roger Cossack as well as William H. Webster Chair in Dispute Resolution, Academic Director and Professor of Law, Thomas J. Stipanowich's presentation entitled DeHavilland v. Warner Bros. Pictures: Changing the Landscape of Hollywood Contracts, at Oxford University on October 31st.

Straus Institute Celebrates 25th Anniversary

Faculty, staff, students, alumni, and distinguished counsel members of the Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution celebrated the program's 25th anniversary with a social gathering on June 22 at the Jonathan Club in Santa Monica.

Harnish Law Library Website Recognized as Best Library Faculty Service Site

The Harnish Law Library's website was voted as the "Best Library Faculty Service Site," as recognized by a Social Science Research Network (SSRN) article published in April. The article, Law Library Faculty Services Websites: Top Sites and Services Advertised, which will also appear in the Legal Reference Services Quarterly, referenced an empirical analysis and review of the 200 American Bar Association accredited law school library web pages that evaluated communication of library services with law school faculty.

Palmer Center's Micro-Enterprise Program Launches Latest Group of Entrepreneurs

The Geoffrey H. Palmer Center for Entrepreneurship and the Law launched the latest group of entrepreneurs to complete the 24-week micro-enterprise program. A ceremony at the Villa Graziadio Executive Center on the Malibu campus in April celebrated the successes of each of the 14 entrepreneurs. Howard Spunt, cofounder of Landmark Retail Group, served as keynote speaker.

Jay Milbrand's Latest Book Challenges Readers to Go + Do

Jay Milbrandt's latest book, Go + Do, was welcomed by readers at an official release reception held at the School of Law in April. Published by Tyndale House, the book is a compilation of first-hand accounts of Milbrandt's work overseas as director of Pepperdine's Global Justice Program. According to Milbrandt, it serves as a challenge to "go out into the world, witness the raw edges of humanity, and then do something about what you see."

Straus Institute Ranked Number One In Dispute Resolution for Eighth Consecutive Year

The Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution builds on its 25-year history and continues to top the U.S. News & World Report rankings as the number one dispute resolution program for the eighth consecutive year.

Straus Institute Selected to Host LAAC Training

Pepperdine's Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution was selected to host a strategic negotiation skills training session by the Legal Aid Association of California (LAAC). LAAC is coordinating the work of several pilot projects for innovative service under the Sargent Shriver Civil Counsel Act.

Straus Institute Hosts Three International Scholars

Pepperdine School of Law's Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution has a history of drawing students and professionals from throughout the world to study the program's unique curriculum. In its 25 years of existence, and with its eight-year stint at the top of the US News & World Report ranking for dispute resolution programs, Straus has hosted nine academic scholars associated with both the Fulbright and Muskie fellowship programs. The scholars stem from diverse backgrounds in Germany, El Salvador, Egypt, Panama, Tunisia, the Czech Republic, and Moldova.
