Georgetown Presents Dean Starr with Lifetime Service Award

Ken Starr, Duane and Kelly Roberts Dean of the School of Law, was awarded the Lifetime Service Award by the Georgetown Law Federalist Society on Thursday, Feb. 5 at the Georgetown University Law Center in Washington, D.C.

Past recipients of the Lifetime Service Award include former Attorney General Richard Thornburgh, Judge Laurence Silberman, former Solicitor General Theodore Olson, Judge Richard Posner, and former Attorney General Edwin Meese.

"The Lifetime Service Award exists to honor those who have had distinguished careers in government and who, in the course of their careers, have helped to advance the principles of the Federalist Society," said David Shaw, Georgetown's chapter president.

"In this respect, Judge Starr is an obvious choice. His service as a judge on the D.C. Circuit, as solicitor general, and as independent counsel was marked by fidelity to the rule of law and a commitment to excellence in every respect," said Shaw. "We were honored to have Judge Starr come and accept the award."

As solicitor general, Dean Starr argued twenty-five cases before the Supreme Court. He was previously a partner at Kirkland & Ellis and Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher, in addition to his public service.

Dean Starr was presented another award by the San Diego Lawyers Chapter of the Federalist Society on Jan. 23. He was given the Bernie Seigan Award, an annual constitutional award, for outstanding service.
