Robert F. Cochran, Jr., recently published the second edition of Lawyers, Clients, and Moral Responsibility with Thomas L. Shaffer.
The book focuses on the fundamentals of legal ethics and contains readings on moral philosophy. Included are parts of John Stuart Mill's essay on utilitarianism, a discussion of the golden rule, and parts of Immanuel Kant's discussion of the categorical imperative.
The book features a set of problems for discussion in the classroom and background readings for each major topic, including ethics rules, judicial opinions, ethics committee opinions, and excerpts from articles and books written by judges, lawyers, and law teachers.
The book has been widely used for more than 14 years.
Professor Cochran teaches Torts, Legal Ethics, Religion and Law, and Family Law. He is the founder of the Herbert and Elinor Nootbaar Institute on Law, Religion, and Ethics.
