On Nov. 15, Dean Starr spoke at the Appellate Judges Education Institute 2008 Summit, hosted by SMU Dedman School of Law in Phoenix, Arizona. Dean Starr gave a review of the Supreme Court rulings of the last year and was joined Dean John Attanasio of SMU Dedman and Professor Pamela Karlan of Stanford Law School. Sandra Day O'Connor, retired justice of the United States Supreme Court, gave remarks that evening at the annual dinner.
Dean Starr has served as judge for the U.S. Court of Appeals, D.C. Circuit, and as solicitor general of the United States. As solicitor general, he argued twenty-five cases before the Supreme Court.
