Ken Starr, the Duane and Kelly Roberts Dean of the School of Law, recently spoke at two conferences and was quoted in the Los Angeles Times.
The first conference was held at Berkeley Law School on Nov. 14, on the Supreme Court of California. Six of the seven members of the California Supreme Court spoke at the conference. Included in the conversation was the very controversial topic of Proposition 8.
Dean Starr, who spoke on a panel and discussed the court's rulings, was quoted in the Los Angeles Times regarding Proposition 8 and the ruling on same-sex marriage. Read the article here.
On Nov. 15, Dean Starr spoke at the Appellate Judges Education Institute 2008 Summit, hosted by SMU Dedman School of Law in Phoenix, Arizona. Dean Starr gave a review of the Supreme Court rulings of the last year and was joined Dean John Attanasio of SMU Dedman and Professor Pamela Karlan of Stanford Law School. Sandra Day O'Connor, retired justice of the United States Supreme Court, gave remarks that evening at the annual dinner.
Dean Starr has served as judge for the U.S. Court of Appeals, D.C. Circuit, and as solicitor general of the United States. As solicitor general, he argued twenty-five cases before the Supreme Court.
