International Human Rights Program

Focused on faith-based initiatives, Pepperdine's international human rights program is unique. Under the auspices of the Herbert & Elinor Nootbaar Institute on Law, Religion, and Ethics (NILRE), the program is growing quickly in response to increased student interest in international human rights.

In the classroom, students learn international law and human rights law from distinguished NILRE faculty such as Professor Roger Alford and Professor Lee Boyd. Outside the classroom, students gain practical experience and make valuable contributions through international externship placements with human rights organizations around the world as well as through on-campus internships. Recently, students were provided the opportunity to assist in researching and drafting an opposition to a petition for certiorari to the United States Supreme Court in a case involving international human rights. ILRE also sponsors speakers, panel discussions and conferences on various human rights issues. Finally, graduating students desiring to pursue careers in the human rights field receive career counseling and mentorship from ILRE faculty and staff.
